Very early wooden garage sign. 100% original on thick beveled wood. Double sided and original hand forged iron hook brackets for sign bracket. Sign is heavy duty. Measures about 30 x 17.5 inches and 1.5 inches thick. Sign bracket and chains attached to the hand forged hooks on sign aren’t original to this sign but it fits and works with it and it is old probably from the 1930s. My guess is 1910s or possibly older? As far as age of garage paint. I don’t have any history on the sign but haven’t went into looking much up on it either. If you look closely you can see a sign/painted writing underneath of the garage sign paint. Which makes me think this sign could be even older mid to late 1800s? And used for something else before it was for a garage? Would make sense because the wood and hooks appear to super old. Look below for every detail on the sign including issues. Sign is as found. One of the earliest garage signs I’ve seen. Has been covered with a thin layer or clear coat to keep paint from flaking or chipping off. Paint was very fragile and that was the only way to preserve it from coming off any more than it already had. Now it is all intact and okay to display.
