This original, rare and vintage Levis denim advertising banner came out of my grandfathers clothing store in Milford, Iowa, which closed in 1955. Its been in the family ever since. The condition is exceptional, with bright, vivid colors and dark denim that shows no sign of sun exposure. I see slight veining in some areas of the inked image, shown in the photos, but the image is so crisp you can read that our lanky cowboy wears size 32W 36L. The sewn edges, stitching and grommets appear perfect. You’ll spend a lifetime trying to find a better example of this desirable mid-century collectible. The denim dimensions are approximately 74 ¾ W x 29 H. Framed, the dimensions are 82 W x 36 H x 1 1/2 D. Note: There are 12 photos of the banner in this listing. It is invisibly (and reversibly) sewn to a red silk matting. The frame has a subtle repeating scallop along its outer edge and tooling that is similar to what you see on some leather goods. The western feel is totally harmonious with the banner’s theme. There is minor impact damage to the lower horizontal on the bottom edge, shown in the photos, which occurred during a recent move. The frame’s structural condition is like new, ready to be hung on the wall of your man cave, bar, café, or any other large space where you need a lot of visual pop at a reasonable cost. The frame has museum-style mounting hardware that allows the frame to be placed flush with the wall. The glass is Optium Premium Acrylic to keep the banner safe from UV-rays for decades to come. I corresponded with the Levi Strauss & Co. Corporate historian in 2011. We made these banners called Sun Screens from the 1930s through the 1960s. Yours dates to the early 1950s, and no earlier than 1952. There were about 5 different designs made in that era and which we gave to our retailers for advertising in their store. We also made a couple of different sizes, likely because not all stores had a lot of wall space. Historian Levi Strauss & Co. Contact me if interested in this option or if you have another idea.
